Cheap Air covers all the basics, air, hotel and car. They also have a corporate travel plan and cruise booking, but you have to call customer service to establish these services. Additionally, we found that Cheap Air’s packages option was not working at the time of this review.
Cheap Air charges $9.95 service fee for all tickets booked with their services. This fee is not included with the price shown when you place your search, but all other taxes and fees are included. Furthermore, there is a $50 to $100 charge for paper tickets and $25 dollars if you need to change the date or flight on your itinerary.
They have almost always had the lowest rates compared to other travel booking sites.
When booking a flight, Cheap Air has one of the largest selections of booking options including flexible dates. We would have like to have seen a nearby airports option for those with complete flexibility. We found Cheap Air will often mix and match flights to find the lowest price, for example, you may depart flight will be on Delta, but your return flight could be with American.
We found Cheap Air has several informational resources including travel news, weather reports and passport information.
Cheap Air’s FAQ section is very small so any questions you have may need to be directed to customer support through phone or email. Fortunately, they responded to our emails in a few hours. Cheap Air does not offer a low fare or low hotel guarantee.
Some more interesting things to point about out about the actual site is the fact that the “Start Over” button is right next to the “Search” button. I’ve hit that “Start Over” button so many times and then have proceeded to hit myself for doing so. Also, you can check a button that asks if your dates are flexible. In my case, they were. However, this feature can only be used for domestic flights, not international. I guess this is so because a vast number of flights in countries outside the U.S operate only on certain days, not daily like most flights here in America.

Cheap Tickets provided on average $100 saving / flight and offered significantly more flight options than Kayak, Travelocity and Orbitz. The times available on Cheap tickets were also MUCH more compatible with our lives than were available on the competitors. I also appreciated the site listing how many seats were available at a particular price point – this was essential when coordinating ALL of the families flight information.
The Flexible Fair Finder is a life saver. If you have the ability to alter your plans by in some cases a day or even 5 hours, you can save hundreds of dollars. Also, you can identify other smaller airports near your destination.
Another BIG feature, is the ability to fly with an infant on your lap. This has not been available on competitors online sites including the airline’s own sites, which can cause a bit of anxiety at the airport. On Cheaptickets you can confirm that the tickets were purchased with the intent of also stowing an “extra” passenger on your lap. Of course, there is a booking fee for this feature.

The search engine on Orbitz because it not only lets you search for a particular airport, but there is also an option to search airports within 70 miles at the same time. This is a very handy feature if you live close to several airports or your destination has several airports in a cluster (south Florida, for example). Other sites make you do these searches individually which is time consuming and can get confusing.
The thing to remember is that time is of the essence – you should book a flight immediately after seeing an airfare you like. You can loss a fabulous $140 round trip from Boston to Florida because of hesitating a few hours while shopping around the internet. When you return to the site – the price can go up to $240 or more.
In addition, the information at Orbitz about the hotels is very thorough. Where Expedia boasts pictures of the hotel, I have found that Orbitz boasts a much better description, with all relevant information such as location, amenities, dining information, and the hotel’s check-in and check-out times as well as pictures contained on a single page, rather then having to click between pages and waiting for them to load.
When I search on Orbitz, the first item displayed on the top of the Results page is a grid. For hotels, this grid gives a starting price of results by location going vertically and star-rating horizontally. This way, I can easily see where hotels in my price range begin and end. Beneath that are the individual hotel listings. Each rate within each listing has a Book It button next to it for fast booking.
For flights, the grid is made up of the number of stops the flight makes vertically by the airline horizontally. This is a terrific way to compare the various options available from the different airlines.
Their vacation packages are always easy to decipher as well. Some sites have things very complicated, and where I can’t make changes to the package (such as the room that I want) until I am well into actually purchasing the package. By changing my room to, say, a concierge level before I am into booking the package, I can more easily see exactly how it will affect the price, and not have to take unnecessary steps only to do comparisons between resorts.

If you are flexible with the times you can travel, you might get a better price on Hotwire for airfare. How does Hotwire work? It is an opaque site where you book your hotel without knowing the name of the hotel in advance. It is divided in stars so you know if you are booking a 2,3 or 4 star hotel. Hotwire does not usually deal with hotels who have very bad reputations. They usually are hotels from big chains or well established hotels.
If you can deal with a small amount of uncertainty, Hotwire.com offers great deals on hotel stays, users and experts say. Users and reviewers find a lot to like with Hotwire.com, praising its ease of use and good deals. That’s especially true for hotels, where Hotwire.com’s blind reservation system tells you the general location of a property and its rating, but not its name or specific address. Since Hotwire’s general locations can span a large area, it’s easy to wind up with a hotel that’s distant from some of the most desirable spots. Rental car reservations work similarly.
You specify the car type and your destination, and Hotwire.com gives you rates, but does not reveal the car agency. Hotwire.com’s airline reservation system, however, works like those of other major online travel sites — including Expedia.com and Travelocity.com — and also features specials such as Hot Rates that can slash up to 40 percent off of last-minute airfares.
